Games

We have recently added a number of games to the shelves! If your family doesn't play games, I suggest that you consider this wonderful tool!

In addition to applying facts and skills that the students are learning during school lessons, through an engaging, interactive format they may also practice some character building skills. Patience, kindness, humility, deference, encouragement and creativitiy are just a few off the top of my head! We love to play games and find it a very useful activity. Our family takes time after dishes and before devotions to play a game of Canasta (patterns, logic, & math skills), Apples to Apples (wonderful, interactive game for all ages and for as many players as you like), or Rail Baron (geography, history of the railroads, planning and math). These games and many, many others are on our list for the evening and we find that the evening chores get done a little faster and with more joy as the kids discuss what we will play tonight.

Our family has a number of relations who enjoy games. It is our delight to get together with the kids' great-grandmas and grandma, aunt and cousins and the occasional uncle for Canasta, Cribbage, Hand & Foot, Pinnochle, Rummikub, The Farming Game, Slamwich, Scrabble, Pictionary, Checkers, Chess and many others. I love to see the 80 year old great-grandma and the 8 year old great-grandson playing Cribbage or Checkers. It has become a precious part of our holiday gatherings.

We also take games with us when we travel. We find that they are a wonderful alternative to junk t.v. in hotels. We can bring something delightful to our hosts when staying with family or friends and the kids have a constructive way to use their spare time. I would be happy to provide you with a list of our favorite games if you would share yours with me!

Currently in The Shop, we have...

Ant Trails

Harvest Time

You will find these games in various rooms (until they sell).
We hope you can find time to challenge your kids in this fun exercise!

By the way, we never LET the kids win! A game that is won in our home, is won by honest dealing and Providence since every toss of the lot is determined by the Lord. If the kids lose, they have the privilege of rejoicing with a brother or sister in their winning and if they win, they have the opportunity to be gracious and humble. Happy bonding!
