The Homeschool Book Shop Newsletter>
Chess Club
May 20, 2009
My 13 year old, David, just loves to play a game of chess with young people or even the occasional dad who is along for the ride. If you come to the Shop, unless David is gone or playing one of his instruments, he will likely come see if you would like to play chess. I believe he has only been turned down a couple of times since the Shop opened.
This is one of the best perks of being at the Shop every day. Chess is a wonderful opportunity for our young people to spend constructive time together. It encourages conversation, focus, logical thinking and creativity. That is why we are going to start a chess club here at The Homeschool Book Shop! Starting Friday at High Noon, the games are on! All ages welcome, all skill levels welcome! We will be meeting every Friday, year 'round from noon to 2pm. At the moment we only have 2 chess sets, so if you are coming, please, bring a board.
Also on the calendar, Knitting for Beginners with homeschooling mom, Collette Meyer. Part I of this class will be held Thursdays from 2-3pm in July. It is for anyone ages 10 and above. Parents, boys & girls are invited to join us for this free summer fun! A course description and supply list will be made available in June. The dates for this class are July 9, 16, 23, & 30. Part II will be scheduled later. We look forward to seeing you here!
We are working on another event. Details are still in the works, but for now, we would like to let you know that we are working on putting together a book club. Ages & Emphasis are still to be determined. We would be happy to hear from you on whether you, your child or your group would be like to be involved. We love books here at The Homeschool Book Shop. If you have any input, we would love to hear from you! Go to www.thehomeschoolbookshop.com put Book Clubs in the subject line on the contact us page, then leave us any comments. We look forward to talking with you!
