Too Much to List

November 19, 2008

This has been a fun week! The titles being added to the shelves have been so exciting!

I came across something new to learn this week which has kept me distracted for a while: what to do with books that are collectable...hmmm. Still thinking about this one. For the moment these books are in safe keeping on the shelves behind the counter until I figure out how best to get them into the hands that will eat them up with the most relish.

A book that my family has enjoyed with each of our children is Leading Little Ones to God by Mariam Schoolland. This book was given to us as a baby shower gift with our first child. It has become a precious friend. We have read it once for each child and it has been at a crucial time in each child's spiritual life. We have seen the simplicity of the gospel message touch each sweet (and sinful) heart and seen God working. A copy of this book in a rare hardback form crossed our counter this week and I must confess, I thought it would be fun to have a hardback rather than the paperback we have always used. Somehow older feels better to the touch.

The collectable version of this book really just served to remind me of how precious the Lord has been in reaching our children. They are still growing, but time has moved on. I do believe I will pass this book on to my grandchildren (may God grant us many, many!), but for the moment I am happy just recalling the pensive faces of my little ones as we worked through a new devotional each morning. What a delectable time it was! Like a creamy cup of tea with milk!

(If you are curious, the collectable book is on the shelf behind the check out counter waiting for the right person to start a new tradition with their little ones)
