I have been somewhat in a dither (in other words, not trusting the Lord with the details) for the past couple of days because some critical components of the inventory tracking system have been missing. This would be less than substantial if the opening date were not a few days away. As it stands, a very difficult decision has been made to go ahead and open the doors for receiving consignment from consignees, but I can not sell, yet. As of today, all of the books are in the "processing" room waiting for their price sticker, but the computers are still not smart enough to recognize the precious books (or is it the operator's fault...probably).

Therefore, we are happy to be open and to have you come and drop off your things and look around, but will not be selling as we will be working madly to get the books actually ON THE SHELVES!

My mom called this afternoon to tell me that she was taking a few days off to help me and I called Jonathan True and asked him to help me. God bless them both! The Lord knew just what I needed to encourage me through.

Putting the shop into perspective helps to give me a thankful, peaceful heart! When I consider that a few months ago, The Homeschool Book Shop was low on the list as we were moving from Seattle to Spokane, and the tremendous progress that has been made since that time, I have to confess that apprehension about these last few days (or a week or two) is ridiculous. The Lord has made it abundantly clear that He is at the helm of the ship. All I must do is stand and watch.

I had a couple of sweet, sweet moms offer to help today and I can't tell you how much I appreciated it. On Monday, another mom told me with genuine sincerity that their family was praying for us. Just the idea that there are families praying for us, is enough to lift our countenances and push us forward!

These are the first bumps that we have had in starting the shop and they are quite small. I do apologize for not being fully operational next week. That is actually the most difficult thing about the small slow-downs. I hope to have the shop open enough that if you come in on Tuesday, you will at least be able to get a feel for what to expect and perhaps drop off your consignment things, but not being able to sell makes me a little batty.

On a different front, the paper towel dispensers arrived today! It was such a simple thing, but it was tremendously exciting to put the dispensers in the bathrooms (not mounted, yet) since it is a visual sign of progress. The first book on the shelf will be even more exciting! At this point, every baby step forward is absolutely refreshing!

Another refreshing thing was today's weather! Oh, I am so glad to be back in the Inland Northwest!! The kids enjoyed riding their bikes in the blustery wind and are enamored with the huge piles of pine needles cushioning the streets. We all breathe deeply whenever we set foot outside! It has made us almost giddy to experience the crisp winds, gentle (can it be called "dry?") rain and the changing leaves. We still feel like we are on vacation. We are, however, fully in school-mode with various activities, studies, reading, field trips (to set up the store, of course) and paper and pencil, but this does not diminish our unabashed delight in God's creation. The children have all been raised (until now) in the Seattle area. The climate and weather are very different here and they are beginning to understand my happiness with the relocation!

A few set backs on the opening date, a few electronic challenges, and a software ineptitude can't suppress our excitement at the change of season and the change of communities! We are loving you, Spokane!

For The Homeschool Book Shop,

A.
