Considering Homeschooling
Is it right for us?

Every week we have multiple inquiries about how to start homeschooling. The folks who ask this question generally fall into one of these categories...

  • Parent of young children who is considering homeschooling.
  • Parent of a child that they have just pulled out of school.
  • Friend of a homeschooler and wondered if it might be a good fit for them.
  • Parent of a child in school, but the child is struggling.
  • Parent of a child with special needs that may be better off at home.
  • Teachers & Parents who would like to homeschool their own children, but don't think they are qualified.

If you fit into one of these categories, you may be wondering, "What is the next step and can I do this???"

In a VERY short summary, almost certainly, if you are asking this question, the answer is, YES! You can do this and there is help for you!

I am not going to attempt a detailed discussion of this subject here. The best way to get started is by asking questions and researching options! There are many authors, co-op leaders and families who are having a great time home educating. Almost without variation, you will find that they love to talk about their experiences!

Here are a few things for you to think about...

  • Why are you considering homeschooling?
  • What is your goal for your child/children?
  • Do you know any homeschoolers/Do you have a mentor?
  • Are you willing and able to take the time to be with your students?
  • Are heads of the household in agreement?

There is not a correct answer to these questions, they are only a launching pad for you to understand your own motives, willingness & ability. If you have already considered these questions and you are ready to lay out a plan of some kind and move forward, then the next set of questions to ask run along these lines...

  • What is your child's learning style?
  • What is your learning/teaching style?
  • Do you want structured curriculum or themed studies?
  • What subjects are you going to be teaching?
  • And of course, what is your child's current learning status and what level of materials is he/she ready for?

These may seem like difficult questions, but help is available. If you care, you are capable!

Since we are asked about starting homeschooling by so many customers, Amber is available to schedule an appointment to meet with you. This is a service that we are happy to supply during business hours, however, if you would like a more private time in which Amber can focus exclusively on your family. There will be a fee of $25 per private consultation. If you are interested, give us a call to schedule an appointment.

Otherwise, we will do our best to answer questions whenever you drop in! During the busy season (June through September) we are extremely busy. This may impact the amount of time we can take during our regular hours to talk with you.

In summary, almost without exception, you can homeschool! Ask questions, read books and research your options! Home education can be an amazing adventure of growth for you and your child!
